This series is a mirror for the viewer, to raise questions about accountability in cases of large-scale industrial disasters and environmental damage, before the time or space for reflection disappears. It also highlights the systemic leakages, loopholes, injustices and delays that plague the path to justice.
It's been 41 years since the night of the Bhopal Gas Leak disaster, and yet, generations of human lives remain affected, leading ruptured lives plagued by multiple diseases, cognitive imbalances and prolonged suffering. The perpetrator corporations have thrived, transformed and even disappeared behind the corporate veil, one logo transforming into another, with no one assuming legal or moral responsibility. Grave environmental damage continues in the city of ‘Old Bhopal’ through contamination of land and groundwater as the “toxic hotspot” of waste left behind in the factory premises and its unlined solar evaporation ponds, has not been cleaned up.
Sadly and very dangerously, a precedent has been set that sanctions dehumanizing technology and prioritizing growth/profit in the name of so-called ‘development’ at a pace that is unsafe for humanity at large.
